Every culture has its stories. Whether they are myths or based on facts, good story-tellers can make their audience feel more connected to history. They also help audience feel closer to their cultural heritage.
HELP University’s Early Childhood Education Department (ECE) in collaboration with Persatuan Peminat Buku Bergambar (PPBM) will be carrying out two workshops: Storytelling Workshop and Children Trilingual Story FunCamp on Saturday, 30 May 2015 and Sunday, 31 May 2015 from 8.30am to 5.30pm. These two workshops will be carried out simultaneously on these two consecutive days. These workshops will be held in HELP ELM Business School and are open to the public.
This workshop will feature third year HELP University Early Childhood Education (ECE) students as they will be giving out some of these workshops. These students have been trained in this field by professional and experienced lecturers from HELP University.
The Storytelling Workshop is open to people of all ages who are interested in storytelling. With international storytellers from India, Thailand, Indonesia and even Taiwan, participants will have a great opportunity to learn the different methods of storytelling in these diverse cultures. The fee for this Storytelling Workshop is RM 180.00 which is inclusive of lunch and tea. College and University students will only need to pay RM120.00.
The Children Trilingual Story FunCamp will be during the same time as the Storytelling Workshop. This workshop however, is targeted towards children aged five to nine. With international storytellers and facilitators from India, Thailand, Indonesia and Taiwan, children will learn stories and the heritage of these different cultures. The fee for this Children Trilingual Story FunCamp is RM 160.00 which is inclusive of lunch and tea. Participants of the Storytelling Workshop’s children will only need to pay RM 140.00
Students from HELP University’s Early Childhood Education Department (ECE) will also be selling children’s books during the workshop. The money made on those particular days will be donated to Non-profit Organizations.
“We will be having many fun and exciting activities for the children attending this workshop. Among the activities are games and face-painting”, said Margret, Program Coordinator of HELP University’s Early Childhood Education Department. “We have carried out this workshop for three consecutive years and it has been very successful as we believe that it promotes the Early Childhood Education Department and the quality of our course. Without doubt, we produce one of the best students in this field and it is time we helped others through this workshop”, she concluded.
