Bachelor (Honours) of Communication (PR)
The room is dark and I hear someone breathing beside me. I am still trying to get used to the idea of sharing a room with someone again. My roommate, Hui Sze, was also one of the Malaysians who took part in the Summer Feeling Programme. The other two were Li Yin and Sze Sern. Four of us attended Chonbuk National University for a period of two weeks.
I experienced useful, exhilarating and daunting experiences whilst living and studying abroad. What struck me most were the people I met, such as the coordinator, the helpers and participants from all over the world. Some were their current students, and some came from thousands of miles from their homes just like me.
Throughout the days we all spent together, what stayed most deeply in my mind were the afternoon activities. We visited the university’s surroundings on orientation day after the opening ceremony. The facilities were spectacular, especially the digital library which consists of the Annexe, Reading Room, Law Library, Medical Library, Dentistry Library which includes the Central Library which contains millions of books and thousands of journals.
Besides that, the university brought us to Hanok Village where we made pottery. This was a novel experience for me. We also visited the Jeonbuk Hyundai FC Club House, Hanok Village where we made ‘bibimbap’ and experienced traditional music.
In the second week of our programme, we were really excited to attend a K-Pop dance lesson. The majority of us were so eager, and enjoyed dancing to the famous Korean song “Bang Bang Bang” by Big Bang. The visit to the Hyundai car factory was also an eye-opener.
Another activity that impressed me a lot was the experience of a traditional Korean wedding. They demonstrated how traditional weddings were carried out and the meaning of each procedure and most importantly, we had the delight to put on their traditional wedding wear. We could not conceal our excitement and took many photos to preserve our memories.
The places we visited were unforgettable and I would like to recommend if any of you who are looking for a vacation to pay a visit to this beautiful country of South Korea as you will surely have one of your best moments here. I am truly thankful for this summer at Chonbuk National University which have made my dreams come true.
