KUALA LUMPUR – Every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, HELP University (HU) staff members meet up at HGS Conference Room, Level 10 Wisma HELP to partake in a “toastmasters” meeting. Program Development Advisor at HELP University, Dr. Lim Chooi Peng established a “Toastmasters Club” in 2014.
“As a tertiary education institution, we have to improve our communication method by articulating words and speaking fluently. It is very important that we set an example for students by speaking well. I am pleased that both academic and administrative staff are attending these meetings”, said Dr. Lim Chooi Peng.
The Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills. The fundamental objective of HU’s Toastmasters Club is to educate staff at HU through the process of self-improvement and leadership training so that they may increase their confidence and usefulness in business, professional and community life.
From attending these meetings, people get to feel better about themselves as these meetings encourage you to love yourself and to become the best you can be. These meetings are designed to give participants praise and instead or critiques, tips. HU aims to send HU staff to take part in international speech contests and conventions and to perhaps one day, to become world champion in public speaking.
“These toastmasters meetings help you challenge yourself. You are required to compete against yourself and become the best person in your field of work”, said Dr. Lim Chooi Peng. “We are carrying out these meetings to increase the level of English in HU students”.
HU continues to carry out programs and seminars to help students become achievers. There is also a Toastmasters Club for students at HU. For those interested in this club or any other clubs and activities at HU, please do refer to http://www.help.edu.my/ or call +603-2716 2000. Be an achiever with HU.
