KUALA LUMPUR – HELP University’s Matriculation Centre (HMC) carried out a Board Games Carnival on 22 June 2015 and 24 June 2015 from 10.00am to 03.30pm at Level 5, Wisma HELP. This carnival was organized by students in HMC taking the “Business” class and was carried out to evoke social skills in HELP University (HU) students and staff.
This carnival acted as a platform for HU students and staff to come together, to summon interactions and hone their social skills. The board games chosen imparted social skills and social emotional competencies. The main objective of this carnival was for the students in the particular business class to gain experience to run their own business by planning and executing a business plan and carrying out an event in a more practical approach. Another objective of this carnival was to promote board games awareness to HU students and staff.
This Board Games Carnival started at 10.00am where students gathered and formed groups to play different board games. Students took turns trying out different strategy board games such as Shadow Hunters, Dominion, Ticket to Ride and Avarium Academy. Different groups of students came in at different intervals to play these board games.
This carnival was an amazing event as students not only had fun but also made new friends. “In this day and age, everyone is so focused on going on-line and playing computer games. What happened to these board games that actually make you interact with other human beings?’ said student of HMC, Nick Lim Meng Fu. He continued, “These board games are so much more beneficial compared to the games teenagers are playing these days. It is about time we had a carnival like this to promote board games.”
HU will continue carrying carnival and events like these to inspire students to think outside the box. It is HU’s priority to enhance creativity and innovation among its students.
