KUALA LUMPUR – HELP University (HU) hosted a blood donation drive on 22 June 2015 at DSA, HELP ELM Business School from 10am to 4pm. This blood donation drive was held to meet Pusat Darah Negara’s (PDN) demand to save more lives. HU’s blood donation process started with a simple registration, followed by a mini-physical examination and then the actual donation process. After the donation process, refreshments were provided for the donors.
Some of us donate blood because we are asked to by our friends; some of us know a family member or a friend that would need blood someday; some of us simply donate because we believe that it is the right thing to do; while some of us just don’t donate blood. So why is it important for HU students and staff to donate blood? Here are a few reasons:
1. One in seven people entering a hospital needs blood.
2. One pint of blood is all that is needed to save three lives.
3. Every two seconds, someone is in need of blood.
4. The whole blood donation process, from registration, takes less than an hour.
When interviewed, one of the donors, Sia Chen Wei, student at HU said, “Donating blood is not painful at all. This is my second time doing it. I urge everyone to do it too”. When asked, “Why do you donate blood?” Sia Chen Wei said, “Simply because we are one. Race and religion cannot divide us. We will always be one.”
One of the nurses from PDN, S.N. Vishalany explained that these blood collected can save thousands of lives. One can donate blood once in every three months. Donating blood also reduces cholesterol. She added, “Hospitals in Malaysia are in desperate need of your blood. Please donate your blood now. You never know how many lives one pint of your blood can save.”
It is important that all HU staff and students donate blood to save lives. HU will definitely be carrying out more of these blood drives in the near future. For further information on HU, please do refer to http://www.help.edu.my/ or call +603-2716 2000. Be an achiever with HU.
