The look of happiness and joy shared by the children from Rumah Anak Yatim Damai and Maahad Tahfiz Lil Aytam, both from Kuang in Selangor at HELP University’s (HU) ‘Buka Puasa’ event spoke volumes on the success of the event.
The eighty children accompanied by their caregivers were feted to a variety of food and also received ‘Duit Raya’ from Datin Chan Low-Kam Yoke, Group CEO of the HELP Education Group. Community leaders from around the Subang 2 vicinity, such as the Damai Residence Community, and representatives from the local neighbourhood mosque also attend the buka puasa event.
Dr Khairuddin Othman, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Studies, HELP University, who opened the event said it was indeed heartwarming to share the ‘Buka Puasa’ event with children from the two homes and also from the community.
Datuk Dr Paul Chan, Vice-Chancellor and President of HELP University in his welcoming speech thanked all those who had come together to ensure the success of the event, especially the leaders of the community who had shared the food with staff and student representatives, in the spirit of ‘Buka Puasa’ and the upcoming Raya festivities.
The event was organized by the HELP Indonesian Club and the United Malaysia Muslim Society of HELP University. Also present, the Vice-President of the Student Representative Council (SRC), Firda Ayu Mohd. Azhar, who said the event also proved educational for non-Muslims, especially the international students, some of whom had never attended a ‘Buka Puasa’.
In addition to the Buka Puasa event, the University organized ‘Duit Raya’ for the Maintenance and Security crew, who celebrate Hari Raya annually.
Among the many long serving staff was Jacob Musa, who had served as a member of HELP security staff for the last 16 years and he shared how working for HELP University made him feel appreciated.
