At the school’s invitation, HELP University Vice-Chancellor and President Datuk Dr Paul Chan attended the launch of SM Poi Lam’s English Language Month in Ipoh as the guest of honour.
SM Poi Lam is one of the larger Chinese independent schools in Malaysia, with a population of 1,850 students. It offers a choice of exams: UEC, SPM and GCE O-Levels.
The school adheres to the principles and teachings of Confucius; a large statue dedicated to the philosopher stands at the school’s entrance.
Although located in Perak, Poi Lam admits students from other states and also international students (about 100 of them, from the UK, US, Canada and China). Its hostel accommodates 400 students.
