HELP University is also the only university in the world to have a 2+1 articulation programme with the prestigious University of Queensland, Australia which was ranked 51 by QS World University Rankings 2016.
In 2016, 74 business students have transferred to UQ and 15 students have been awarded scholarships
Megan Gail Ventura, 21, who was awarded a full scholarship to do a degree in Accounting at the University of Queensland, said that she heard about HELP University’s close relationship with UQ through some church friends, of which one of them was a scholarship recipient herself and had encouraged Megan to apply for the UQ scholarship.
“I was doing a Marketing major at HELP University and I like it very much but my parents has advised me to change it to accounting instead as it is more challenging, and I will acquire a practical set of skills which I can merge with anything in life,” she said. “I gave some thought to it and realized that they were right, because I am also the sort of person who needs challenges in life to bring the best out of me, so I made that switch when I applied to UQ.”
An admirer of Brit Marling, and American actress, screenwriter, and producer, Megan hopes to pursue a second degree in cinematography or film, and produce her own cross sci-fi film scripts and indies one day.
When asked what encouragement she would give to her juniors, Megan said: “You have to be yourself, and believe in yourself and your dreams. You should not follow the norm. Like what Mahatma Gandhi said you should be the change you want to be, and the change starts with yourself first.”
As for her experience studying at HELP University, Megan said that she enjoyed the student diversity, and that the lecturers were very down to earth. “You are able to debate with the lecturers in the Faculty of Business they will not give you rigid answers and insist they are right, but instead they have pitched out opinions and encouraged us to think for ourselves” said Megan.
Two other UQ scholarship winners who joined Megan in July this year were Tan Wen Hui,19, and Lee Wen Ni, 21.
Wen Hui, who is majoring in Finance said that upon completing her degree, she will pursue a professional qualification in Finance. “One of the pulling factors for me to join HELP University was the partnerships it has with UQ and other top universities, as I was also looking forward to go overseas to complete my degree. The HELP degrees also received maximum credit exemptions from various professionalaccounting bodies. I was also told that the lecturers in the Faculty of Business are very helpful and they have provided a lot of guidance.”
Wen Ni, an Accounting and Finance major, said that she joined HELP University because it is famous in business studies. Her cousins who had studied at HELP University also recommended the university to her. It is also the only institution in Malaysia that offers a 2+1 credit transfer arrangement with the University of Queensland.
“The Year 1 programme at HELP is very good as it is a broad based curriculum. The lecturers were also very helpful,” shared by Wen Ni who intends to pursue a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) course once she graduates.
HELP University’s students are able to transfer to University of Queensland’s Bachelor of Commerce (2+1), Bachelor of Business Management (2+1), Bachelor of Economics (1.5 + 1.5), and Bachelor of International Hotel and Tourism Management (1.5 + 1.5)
For students interested in pursuing a degree and career in accounting, finance, business and hospitality, HELP University’s Faculty of Business offers degrees that are highly recognised by industry partners and professional bodies, giving them an advantage when they graduate, as they are able to gain exemptions and recognition when they apply to professional bodies. The programme is also recognized by most Australian universities for credit transfer.
HELP University’s Bachelor of Business (Accounting) (Honours) degree is recognised by three international professional accounting bodies. This is a testimony to the educational quality provided by this faculty. Not all universities in this world despite their status, will have their accounting degrees received maximum exemptions or accredited by ACCA, CPA Australia and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
The Bachelor of Business (Finance)(Honours) programme has been accepted into the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute University Recognition Programme. This status is granted to institutions whose degree programme(s) incorporates at least 70% of the CFA Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK), which provides students with a solid grounding in the CBOK and positions them well to sit for the CFA examinations.
Students who have completed the Bachelor of Business (Honours) degree are also eligible to apply for Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) credit with the Society of Actuaries (SOA) of the United States of America if they receive the acceptable score in the VEE approved courses.
The Financial Planning Association of Malaysia also awards exemption for their Module 3 to students who have completed the Bachelor of Business (Finance)(Honours) degree. They will then only be required to complete 3 more modules to be awarded the Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
For STPM and UEC graduates who are interested to pursue a business or accounting or finance degree, HELP University provides a 30% waiver on tuition fees for STPM graduates, and a 25% waiver on tuition fees for UEC graduates. There is also a 30% waiver on tuition fees for those interested to pursue a Hospitality Management or Tourism Management degree.
HELP University also provides various scholarships such as the School Achiever Scholarship Awards (SASA) to outstanding students who have displayed excellent leadership and academic results.
